When someone in Botoșani searches for “car service”, “dentist” or “cleaning company”, Google does not show them the best companies in Romania. It shows them the best-optimised companies in Botoșani. That is the good news for any local business: you are not competing with the whole country, but with 10-20 companies in your city, most of which have done nothing systematic about visibility. Here is how to take advantage of that.
Why local SEO is different from “classic” SEO
For searches with local intent (“near me”, the city name, or simply a service searched for on a phone), Google shows three types of result: the Map Pack with three businesses, the classic organic results and, sometimes, ads. Local SEO means appearing in the first two, with the emphasis on the map, which receives 40-60% of clicks on mobile.
The signals Google uses for local ranking differ from national ones: the relevance of the business profile, distance from the user, prominence (reviews, mentions, local links) and the consistency of contact details across the web.
Step 1: Google Business Profile, done properly
It is the most important digital asset of a local business and, paradoxically, the most neglected. What a complete profile looks like:
- a precisely chosen primary category (not “Services” but “Cleaning company”) and 2-4 secondary categories;
- a verified address, opening hours kept up to date including holidays, a local phone number;
- a 500-750 character description covering services and areas served;
- at least 20 real photos: exterior, interior, team, work, products;
- a services list with indicative prices;
- weekly posts (offers, news, completed projects);
- answers to questions and to every review, good or bad.
For LCV Confex, the cleaning company in Botoșani, a properly optimised and actively maintained profile reached the Map Pack for the main city searches within three months, before the website had climbed organically.
Step 2: reviews – the deciding factor
The number, rating and recency of reviews weigh enormously in local ranking and in the customer's decision. What works:
- Ask for the review right after the customer is satisfied, not a week later.
- Send a direct link (QR code on the invoice, WhatsApp message).
- Reply to every review within 48 hours, mentioning the customer's name and the service provided – Google reads the replies too.
- Do not buy reviews. Google detects them, and the penalty is profile suspension.
A business with 40 reviews at 4.8 will almost always outrank one with 5 reviews at 5.0.
Step 3: the website – city and service pages
The website must confirm what the business profile says. The minimum structure that works:
- one page for each main service, titled “Service + City” (“Office cleaning Botoșani”);
- for businesses serving several cities (Botoșani, Dorohoi, Suceava, Iași), a dedicated page for each city with real content, not copied with the name swapped;
- contact details identical to those in the profile, marked up with structured data (LocalBusiness schema);
- load time under 2.5 seconds on mobile – most local searches come from phones;
- an embedded map and directions.
Step 4: local citations and community links
Google checks whether your business “exists” elsewhere too: local directories, the Chamber of Commerce, professional associations, the local press. Data consistency (identical name, address and phone everywhere) matters more than the number of mentions. An article in the local press, a partnership with a city event or sponsoring a sports team bring links your competitors cannot copy.
The specifics of the Moldova region and the Republic of Moldova
For the cities of the North-East (Botoșani, Suceava, Iași, Piatra Neamț, Bacău), online competition is visibly lower than in Bucharest or Cluj, and the cost of reaching page one is proportionally lower. For businesses in Chișinău and the Republic of Moldova the rules are the same, with one particularity: searches are made in Romanian and Russian, and the profile and website must cover both languages so as not to lose half the market.
Mistakes that keep you on page two
- Different addresses or phone numbers on the website, Facebook and the Google profile.
- A vague or wrong primary category.
- A profile created and abandoned, with no posts and no replies to reviews.
- A slow website without a proper mobile version.
- The same page copied for ten cities.
- Keywords stuffed into the business name in the profile (Google penalises this).
How long it takes and what it costs
The first effects appear 4-6 weeks after profile optimisation, and stable Map Pack positions are usually reached in 3-4 months. Our Google Business Profile & Local SEO service starts at 150 EUR per month, and the SEO START package, which also includes website optimisation, from 199 EUR per month. For a business with several locations, the calculator quickly gives you the total cost.
Local SEO is not magic and it is not expensive. It is discipline: correct data, reviews requested consistently, real content about your city. Whoever does this for six months in a row ends up, almost without exception, on page one.
